About Us

Proposed Activation Protocol
The Objective of the Activation Protocol
To support the Mission of the Egan Warming Centers, we need a clear way to determine which nights to open and how we communicate this to volunteers, support agencies and guests.
The Protocol is our attempt to insure we are open on those nights when weather conditions are the most dangerous for our guests.

Our current resources limit us to between 20-30 nights this season.

Egan Warming Center Leadership monitors all available weather services. We remain on Outlook until the forecast temperature is below 32 degrees. We consult with Joseph Calbreath when cold weather approaches.

Alert Level is changed to Standby when the forecast overnight lows are below 32 degrees.
Volunteers and  Support agencies are notified and scheduled for three nights starting with the first night forecast below 32 degrees.
WE REMAIN ON STANDBY UNTIL THE FORECAST IS 29 DEGREES OR LOWER.

ALERT LEVEL INCREASES TO ACTIVATE 24 hours (the day before) the forecast low is 29 degrees or lower.
Leadership may authorize Activation after three consecutive days of extreme weather.
Once activated we monitor the weather and stand down on 24 hour notice when weather improves.
This is communicated to all Site Leads, support agencies, volunteers and guests as soon as possible.
